March Comes In Like A Lion.....

The 1st grade students  talked ablaut the saying " March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb" We then created these lions. It was a two class session process. The first class session we did a directed drawing in pencil, and then I showed the students how to work from lightest paint color to darkest. The following week, when they were dry, they traced around the contours, with a black marker.

Second Graders Working with Monochromatic Color

This week the second graders experienced Monochromatic painting. It ties in perfectly with Valentines Day, Jim Dine, and Tints. The most difficult part was teaching them to work back wards and go from light to dark - rather than the opposite. It was also challenging for them to mix the WHOLE pan of paint- rather than just the spot where they had "dropped" the paint.
