The 3rd grade students read the story Why is the Blue Dog Blue and studied the prolific art of Georges Rodrigue. I teach in a mainly Hispanic community so my students made connections to the chupacabra from their culture. They then drew their own Blue Dogs, and painted them with water colors. They had so much fun and were so excited to complete these!

Second Graders Working with Monochromatic Color
This week the second graders experienced Monochromatic painting. It ties in perfectly with Valentines Day, Jim Dine, and Tints. The most difficult part was teaching them to work back wards and go from light to dark - rather than the opposite. It was also challenging for them to mix the WHOLE pan of paint- rather than just the spot where they had "dropped" the paint.
